(À PARTE) White 100% Sercial DOC Bucelas Bio 2021
Description
It is in Bucelas that we produce our white and sparkling wines. North of Lisbon, in the Trancão River Valley, this Demarcated Region, established in 1911, produces unique wines in small quantities, as do the regions of Carcavelos and Colares.
Vine cultivation in Bucelas was introduced by the Romans, probably around 200 BC.
Respecting this region's history of producing excellent wine, Biogrape is making its mark by producing the first organic DOC Bucelas wine of the modern era.
Produced at Quinta do Casal da Cruz, in perfect harmony with nature, it is the result of enormous dedication and passion that transformed the grapes into wine (À PARTE).
100% Sercial
We like to make wines with minimal intervention to reflect our terroir, but this one is undoubtedly "out of the box". Produced from Sercial, a grape variety that many authors point to as originating from Bucelas, it is also used in the production of Madeira wines. In mainland Portugal there are only 70 hectares, of which 2 hectares are on our Casal da Cruz estate in Bucelas.
These grapes give us an orange must that gives the wine a deep golden final color.
Its fermentation isn't easy, but after a few attempts we figured out how to bring it to fruition.
It is surprisingly dry and probably responsible for the distinct character of Bucelas wines.
The (ASIDE) Branco 100% Sercial DOC Bucelas Bio 2021 is a white wine with good acidity and minerality, characteristics that make it versatile for pairing with a variety of light and delicately flavored dishes, such as, for example,
- Fish and Seafood : The acidity and freshness of the wine perfectly complement grilled fish dishes, shellfish (such as clams à Bulhão Pato or seafood cataplana) and sushi.
- White Meats : Poultry, such as chicken or turkey, provided it is lightly prepared without heavy sauces.
- Pasta and Risotto : Pasta with cheese or vegetable-based sauces and seafood risotto.
- Cheese pairings : Due to its acidity and profile, this wine pairs well with milder cheeses or aged cheeses such as Rabaçal DOP cheese.
- Japanese cuisine : The lightness and freshness of the wine are a great match for Japanese food.
The key to pairing is balancing the freshness and acidity of the wine with dishes that don't overwhelm it, enhancing the flavors of both.
We usually say it's love or hate right after the first try. For us it's... pure passion and recognition from the Decanter 2026 magazine with a well-deserved 93 points.
