Quinta de Macedos - Douro Red 2021
Description
2021 was a year marked by contrasts. After several years of drought, the Douro once again recorded a cooler and more balanced year in terms of temperatures, allowing for a more gradual ripening of the grapes.
As a result, the bunches showed excellent evolution in aromas, texture and color, reflecting a more balanced expression of the terroir.
Winemaking
The grapes were hand-picked and naturally fermented in our granite mills. Our old vines in Block G produced around 3,500 kilos of ripe fruit, which were carefully crushed in mills 1 and 2.
After a spontaneous fermentation of 12 days, the must was pressed into Cuba, where it underwent a prolonged malolactic fermentation of 40 days.
The wine was then aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels from the Allier region, and was bottled unfiltered, preserving all its expression and character.
Tasting Notes
This is a full-bodied wine, with aromas of ripe black fruits, plums and dried fruits.
The profile is bold, with a structured texture of spices and concentrated fruits.
It maintains a perfect balance, presenting a fresh, complex and persistent finish, which enchants and invites you to taste it again.
