SUN. Benedictine vol. 40% - 70cl
Description
The extraordinary story of the Bénédictine liqueur began in 1510 at the Abbey of Fécamp in Normandy, when the Benedictine monk, Dom Bernardo Vincelli, created a secret elixir that would become famous for many years.
Three hundred and fifty years later, in 1863, Alexandre Le Grand, a collector of religious art, discovered this exile's lost recipe among his book collection.
Intrigued by the discovery and after many attempts, he managed to recreate the mysterious liqueur and called it Bénédictine.
Distilled and aged in an extravagant palace built in Fécamp in honor of this unique liqueur, Bénédictine is a subtle alchemy of 27 different plants and spices.
The current manufacturer continues to guard the secret of Benedictine and, in honor of the monks who invented the recipe, built the Bénédictine factory, a replica of the Fecamp Abbey.
The drink has a higher cognac content and the liqueur is drier, therefore less sweet.
The initials DOM, which appear on the label, stand for "Deo Optimo Maximo", meaning "For God, the greatest and the best".
