Aile d'Argent – 2014
Climate conditions
2014 will be remembered as a year of contrasts. Spring usually arrived after a typical Bordeaux winter, however April had a lot of sunshine and was therefore drier than usual.
A wet and cool month of May was followed by a clear and sunny period, despite some localized heavy rain due to thunderstorms on June 22nd and 23rd.
The weather in summer was very unstable. July was generally good and slightly warmer than average, while August was quite cold and much less sunny but drier than normal.
With the end of August came one of the longest and most exceptional summers in viticultural memory, bringing a succession of hot, sunny and dry days that lasted until the end of October.
Warmer weather in April encouraged early sprouting, especially for Merlot, while the extraordinary late season allowed the grapes to reach perfect maturity, retaining all fruit flavors and favoring phenolic compounds. Harvesting took place under ideal conditions, leaving plenty of time to pick the grapes at optimal maturity.
