Tarelo IG Arinto & Verdelho, Azores 2019

Emerging on the Portuguese wine horizon, Tarelo is a bold and sophisticated wine brand, which carries with it a fusion of passion, integrity and rigor.

The word "Tarelo", originating from the Azorean expression "you don't have tarelo", commonly used to indicate a lack of judgment or common sense, was reinterpreted in this ascendant brand. However, Tarelo decides to retell this story, elevating the expression to a new level, and transforming it into a symbol of sophistication and quality.

Tarelo's philosophy is simple but powerful: "No stupid people beyond this point."
This is the motto that guides its strategy, a promise of excellence, of wines that reflect the terroir where they are grown and that can be enjoyed by those who understand and value the art of winemaking.

For Tarelo, wine is not just a drink, but an experience that involves all the senses. Each bottle of Tarelo tells a story of tradition, dedication and passion, transmitted through the unique flavors and aromas of Portuguese wines.
With roots in the Azores, but with a spirit of exploration and innovation, Tarelo is ready to explore new Portuguese terroirs, providing all wine lovers the opportunity to explore and appreciate the rich diversity of Portuguese grape varieties.

Tasting Notes
The typical combination of Azorean blends. Coming from traditional corrals and with very low production, the grapes from these two varieties give rise to a wine with an exotic profile, where the influence of the Atlantic and basalt soils intersect in an extraordinary way.
Mineral aroma, with notes of citrus and some tropical. Thin and deep.
Elegant and fresh in the mouth, with a long and pleasant finish.

The Winemaker

Paulo Laureano is more than a winemaker; He is an artist, an educator and, above all, passionate about wine.
His journey begins as an agronomist, following a fascinating path that takes him through Portugal, Spain and Australia, and which includes a decade teaching at the University of Évora.

However, it was the call of 1993 that guided him towards his true vocation: designing wines.
Today, Paulo is recognized as one of the most renowned Portuguese winemakers, being an unavoidable reference in Alentejo wines. In 1999, the passion shared with his family for wine led him to create his own company, a project that grew and assumed more and more importance in his life.

Paulo's minimalist approach to wine is a true celebration of the senses. Designing wines, for him, is an incessant search for aromas and flavors, a thorough investigation to understand, optimize and enhance the identity and personality of each wine.

Each bottle he designs is, in essence, a source of authentic pleasure.
His unwavering commitment to Portuguese grape varieties is an expression of his respect for Portugal's winemaking tradition and culture. For Paulo, wine is more than a drink; it is a factor of civilization, a means through which culture is shared and celebrated.
Paulo Laureano is, in all his dimensions, a true ambassador of Portuguese wine, combining his passion and talent to create wines that not only please the palate, but also tell stories and celebrate Portugal's rich winemaking heritage.
